Ceiling medallions over 34” in diameter are considered to be oversized.
Oversized ceiling medallions can look majestic in very large rooms such as a ballroom, public areas, or spaces with very high ceilings. They can look particularly appropriate when ceiling heights are doubled, in places like mezzanines or near large staircases. These are good choices for areas with ornate architecture already in place as their size makes it impossible to miss out on the detailing or get overwhelmed. For a particularly regal look, some designers will use oversized medallions in very small rooms, having the medallion take up the entire ceiling.
